Slack's Terms Hide the Full Picture

Slack powers team communication for millions. But their terms of service aren't fully visible where they claim to be. Here's what we found.

Slack itself is a chat and collaboration platform. The terms you see matter because they shape what happens to your data and what rights you actually have.

🔴 The main agreement lives somewhere else. Slack redirects you to an external Salesforce link for the full agreement instead of showing it on their own site. You can't review the complete terms in one place.

🟡 Invited users have fewer rights than account owners. If you're invited to a workspace, you operate under different User Terms than the person who created the account. The rules aren't the same for everyone.

🟡 AI features collect data with unclear privacy terms. Slackbot and Agentforce process your messages. The privacy implications aren't spelled out in the available documentation.

🟢 Security controls are documented and configurable. Enterprise Key Management and access monitoring are available if you need them. They've built actual tools here.

🟢 Privacy and security resources exist. Slack provides a separate privacy policy and security whitepaper. The transparency materials are there to find.

Grade B means Slack has real security bones but muddy terms and outsourced legal docs. Read the policy they link to. Don't assume you're seeing the whole thing.
