Nutanix Terms Protect Nutanix More Than You

Nutanix's terms are standard enterprise software fare, but there are gaps worth knowing about. The company provides cloud infrastructure software and related services. Here's what matters.

🔴 Anything you post to Nutanix community forums becomes Nutanix property. They can use your contributions—bug reports, code snippets, ideas—without paying you or asking again. You're building their knowledge base for free.

🔴 You can't modify, share, or commercialize Nutanix materials without explicit permission. This covers documentation, code samples, and anything else they publish. Even sharing within your own organization for a revenue-generating project requires a written okay.

🟡 The real contract is somewhere else. If you own or use Nutanix products, the NLSA (Nutanix License and Services Agreement) overrides these terms. That means disputes about what you can actually do with the software get settled by a different rulebook.

🟡 Developer tools come with strict limits. You can use their APIs and SDKs only for internal development or to make your own software work with Nutanix. Anything else—even a product you're building for clients—requires permission.

🟢 They do clearly separate different types of agreements. Materials, developer resources, and product licensing each have their own rules. At least you know which terms apply to what.

C-grade territory. Read the NLSA before you buy anything.

This breakdown is based on Nutanix's publicly available Terms of Service and/or Privacy Policy. It may contain mistakes. Spot one? Let us know.
